PRESIDENTS MESSAGE:
They told my father that he would never walk again after a jeep accident during his service in the army. I was just a child when it happened, but I have early memories of him on crutches.
He would go to the hospital for long periods of time for operations. After years of therapy, he graduated to special orthopedic shoes with braces on his legs to help him walk.
As I grew, I realized that even though the doctors ruled out walking in his future, my father's spirit would not accept that fate. He told the doctors that in fact he would walk again. And he did.
It is this example of spirit and fortitude that lives in so many of our young men and women wounded in the service of our country.
I'm proud to announce that now Diveheart has a program to address the needs of our wounded servicemen and women.
It is called DMW ( Diveheart Military Wounded ) and I am proud of the champion who leads the DMW team..Sue Walker.
Sue 's passion is to help our wounded veterans focus on what they can do with their remaining abilities. Her enthusiasm and commitment is exactly what Diveheart needed to launch DMW.
Her growing team of committed volunteers is also inspiring.
One of her team members retired Marine sergeant William White has gone so far as to participate in Diveheart H.S.A. ( Handicapped Scuba Association ) training so he can help other wounded veterans.
Some of the photos in the following story by Dan Barrett will illustrate that tenacity and drive ..which is something that we like to call SPIRIT.
