Diveheart is an international non-profit organization but their home is Downers Grove. With the opening of the Diveheart Outreach Center right in the heart of Downers Grove, Diveheart hopes to create awareness around the physical and mental benefits of scuba therapy. Diveheart’s mission is to build confidence, independence, and self-esteem in the lives of children, adults, and veterans with disabilities through scuba diving, scuba therapy and related activities. Diveheart works with individuals who have a variety of disabilities, including physical and developmental disabilities, vision and hearing impairments, amputations, traumatic brain injuries, Post Traumatic Stress Disorder and more.

The Grand Opening was held on October 6th with the help of Chamber630. The Center is open to all ages and abilities. The organization is excited to welcome friends from the local and global community into their new space.

At the Diveheart Outreach Center, visitors can learn about scuba diving and “Imagine the Possibilities” in their lives. Downers Grove has been Diveheart’s home for many years and they’ve enjoyed partnering with local businesses and organizations like the Bill Kay Auto Group and the Rotary Club.

Diveheart Founder and President, Jim Elliott, and Executive Director, Tinamarie Hernandez, are excited to play a larger role in local community events using their new space. The Center recently hosted a pumpkin painting party. Now that the organization has a store front, they are looking forward to participating in the Rotary Club’s Annual Halloween Window Painting which benefits the Downers Grove Fish Pantry.
